Colorado Preservation, Inc.’s annual Dana Crawford & State Honor Awards is Colorado’s premier statewide preservation awards event, honoring individuals, organizations, public agencies, and businesses from across the state of Colorado, whose work demonstrates excellence in historic preservation. Accomplishments are recognized in the areas of preservation, rehabilitation, stewardship, leadership, and philanthropy.
W. Bart Berger
2019 Dana Crawford Award Recipient
The 2019 Dana Crawford award will go to W. Bart Berger with the Denver Mountain Parks Foundation. A fourth-generation Coloradan, entrepreneur, innovator and storyteller, Bart continues to manage his family’s Centennial Farm near Estabrook. Serving on the board of directors for History Colorado for 21 years and chairman of its board for six of them, he was at the helm for the transition from the Colorado Historical Society to History Colorado and the building of its new home at 12th and Broadway. In 2004, he founded the Denver Mountain Parks Foundation to restore and revitalize the historic Denver Mountain Park system. Through his tenacious advocacy, many of the iconic architectural features there have been restored, funding and staffing has been dramatically increased, and now he is working with the City and HistoriCorps to transform the 1930s Morrison CCC camp into a learning campus for outdoor education and skills training. Bart is a staunch Coloradoan, with a passion for the natural environment as well as the legacy of leadership we have inherited, continuing to weave the two together for future generations.
