Today we are highlighting Melissa and Diego Ortega and Taste of the Rockies Candy.

Founded in 1939, Taste of the Rockies is a family-owned, Colorado-native confectionery brand celebrating the spirit, landscapes, and history of the Rocky Mountains. From iconic rock-shaped chocolates to locally inspired treats, the company is committed to preserving Colorado heritage while creating memorable gifts for visitors and locals alike. Being rooted in Colorado ourselves is why supporting organizations like the Denver Mountain Parks Foundation is so important to us — we believe in protecting the places that define our home for future generations.

Why do you give to Denver Mountain Parks Foundation?

Taste of the Rockies proudly supports Denver Mountain Parks Foundation because protecting Colorado’s open spaces matters deeply to us. As a family-owned company native to Colorado, these landscapes are part of our own story. Our mountain parks are part of this state’s heritage, and once land is developed or privatized, it’s gone forever. These parks belong to the community — to all of us — and they should remain open, protected, and accessible for generations to come. Supporting this foundation is one way we help preserve what makes Colorado truly special.

What do you care about most?

As a Colorado-based, family-owned company, we care deeply about preserving history and protecting everyone’s right to enjoy the outdoors — no matter their background or what part of the city they live in. Time outside isn’t a luxury; it’s essential. Nature improves physical health, mental clarity, and overall well-being. We believe more people — especially kids — need opportunities to connect with the outdoors and experience the beauty of our state.

What does success for Denver Mountain Parks Foundation look like to you?

Success looks like continued preservation of open spaces and stronger education around Colorado’s rich history — including the story of the buffalo and the land itself. It means ensuring these parks remain protected while also expanding access, especially for inner-city youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the mountains. Creating more opportunities for young people to feel connected to Colorado’s landscapes is real success.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
